Passive Glasses 3D

Dear Gary:
I am still loving your publication. My name is Jack, and though I haven't been a subscriber since day one... I have been a subscriber for a long time. Continue to love even the stuff that's over my head. How refreshing it is to have a comprehensive source of information for the audio/video industry.
I have a few questions...
1) I see that VIZIO... and now Samsung are offering 3DTVs (LED/LCDs) that utilize passive glasses. Is this where 2nd-generation 3-D display technology is going? If it is, I think it's a good move... that is if these sets will display a full-resolution 3-D image and still nail 2-D imaging. Will this "passive glasses" technology spill over to plasma displays? To date I still prefer the image and viewing angle of a high-quality plasma display over even the best LED/LCD HDTVs I have auditioned (VIZIO not being one of them). I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this.
2) Why are there re-releases of movies on Blu-ray® that are already ?out? on Blu-ray? (Enchanted, National Treasure, etc.) Are they being re-engineered in some way, or is it just a special edition release? (The two I mentioned don't appear to be special editions... [refer to my rant below].) Are there legitimate reasons for this?
3) Is there an exclusive source to find out about 3-D release schedules? How about plans to re-release existing 2-D movies in the 3-D format (if that's even possible)? And what about the release of the 3-D movies in lock-down because of bundling them to 3DTV purchases? I'm not sure I appreciate the marketing... How many times do they (the studios) think that I am going to purchase the same movie? I would like to future-proof my library by buying the 2D/3D editions rather than buying Avatar... re-buying Avatar (S.E.)... and then buying Avatar in 3D (you know... the economy)... forgive my rant, I know they do this to us all the time.

Editor-In-Chief and Publisher Gary Reber Comments:

Jack your questions are spot on! My comments for the most part can be found in this issue?s ?CES 2011??New Dimensions And Revelations? Part I Video; particularly your questions 1) and 2).
Blu-ray re-releases are due to inventory depletion and the opportunity to re-release or a ?Special Edition? release.
You can view a complete listing of announced Blu-ray titles on our Web site. On the front page under ?Blu-ray Reviews? is ?Release Schedule By Month,? which will take you to http://widescreenreview.com/blog_result.php?tags=Release%20Schedule. This is updated daily, or every few days following studio announcements. You will also be able to launch from any given title directly to Amazon.com to purchase the title, which helps us, as we are a third-party associate. You pay the same price as you would directly from Amazon.com, but through our link we are credited and receive a small commission. This helps us. As well, you can actually pre-order titles that are announced but not yet released.
