InFocus Previews Home Entertainment Projectors At CES

22-Jan-01

InFocus Corporation previewed its new consumer line of projectors at CES. The company says they strived for home decor-friendly design, high video quality and picture contrast. Using InFocusí ProjectionLink technology, the systems will also offer simple, single-wire connectivity to any image source, including standard TV, HDTV, VCR, DVD, digital camera and personal computer. They promise a lower cost and better price/performance than traditional home theatre projection alternatives. InFocusí home entertainment projectors incorporate Texas Instruments' Digital Light Proccessingô technology for superior video image quality and compact size and weight. Not a replacement for the ""everyday"" television, InFocusí concept is to offer a new way to enjoy movies, personal videos, games, digital photos, sporting events, HDTV and even the Internet with a dynamic, big-screen experience through a small projector. ""Current home theatre technologies, such as rear projection televisions, present obstacles for many consumers due to size, cost and compatibility with home decor,"" said Werner Heid, Executive Vice President of InFocus. ""InFocus envisions home entertainment projection systems that are elegantly designed, affordable and easy for dealers and retailers to demo, sell and service."" Digital projection is a $4 billion category today and heavily concentrated in the commercial and education sectors where projectors are used for sales presentations, training and classroom applications. The category is expected to grow to nearly $7 billion by 2002, with substantial potential upside resulting from the introduction of projection to more mainstream uses including home entertainment.
