Questions In WSR

Dear Gary: Joe Kane received a number of questions in Issue 75, August 2003 of Widescreen Review. I believe the cost issue was mainly responsible for the lack of information regarding the use of Digital Video Essentials (DVE) in the D-VHS® D-Theater™ version. I think a good idea would be to offer some insight to the patterns and use of DVE on the Video Essentials Web site (www.videoessentials.com). This would make the information available to all that need it and would involve only a small cost to Joe Kane Productions—the Web site update, additions and Joe Kane’s time. I’m sure there are “interns” that work for JKP that could be assigned specific duties to get much of this work done. Then, Joe would just have to go over the material to make sure it was correct and maybe add some personal commentary to each topic. Just a thought. As for me, I’m waiting for DVE on DVD in September.

Editor-In-Chief Gary Reber Comments:

Not only will Joe Kane be updating detailed information about Digital Video Essentials on the www.videoessentials.com Web site, but we will be publishing various articles about Digital Video Essentials in Widescreen Review to further educate our readers on how to use the discs or D-Theater tapes. The main problem with providing navigation information and explanations of the test patterns on the D-Theater version was the tape format itself is prohibitive in its navigation capabilities. In Issue 76, September 2003, Joe Kane wrote the first of a series of articles on “Test Pattern Descriptions,” which will help guide uses of DVE in all of its disc and tape versions. We are now taking orders for Digital Video Essentials on DVD in both NTSC and PAL formats, which we now have in stock. Our price is $19.99, which includes as a bonus the latest #7 DTS® Digital Surround™ movie demonstation disc. You can order the discs at www.WidescreenReview.com.
