Dear Gary:I read in Issue 79, December 2003, that the DVD Forum has denied the AOD proposal again. I clearly think this is the best platform for high-definition DVD, but alas it seems that once again politics has prevailed instead of what is best for the consumer. I believe the AOD group should develop this format and compete with the Blue-ray group. Then the people can decide for themselves which format is better. And of course if the AOD group makes DTS® a standard, they would be doing the consumer a favor as well. I believe that DTS is the best and I also feel that we as consumers should not have to except low bit rate Dolby® Digital on a high-definition format.

Please read my Editor’s Couch this month for the latest news on the decision of the DVD Forum to embrace the Advanced Optical Disc format, now formally known as HD-DVD. As part of the proposal both high resolution DTS and discrete DVD-Audio will be offered.
