Down-Resolution

Dear Gary: I read Paul Sweeting’s article in Issue 84, May 2004 on the proposed rulemaking of down-resolution. I was wondering if there are comments that FCC is accepting now and petitions that can be submitted by home theatre owners that would like to see this rule not take effect?

Inside Industry View Editor Paul Sweeting Comments:

The official filing period for comments on the relevant proceeding has now closed. If you would like to review the comments that have already been filed, the FCC has a fairly useful Website, www.fcc.gov. From the home page, click on the button for E-Filing. From there, scroll down to Electronic Comment Filing System, main. You can then use the commission's search engine to look up all the filings in a given proceeding. The issue of down-resolution is part of a rulemaking proceeding officially captioned, “Commercial Availability of Navigation Devices and Compatibility Between Cable Systems and Consumer Electronics Devices,” PP Docket No. 00-67. Simply enter the docket number in the search engine. Letters can also be addressed to the FCC, 445 12th Street SW, Washington, DC 20554. Letters should be addressed to the Media Bureau, and it’s a good idea to reference the proceeding or docket number.
