Dear Gary:Widescreen Review has advocated for some time dual HDMI connectors (one for DVD HD input and one for cable/satellite HD input ) for HDTV CRT/LCD/DVD/plasma devices.I understand that many HDTV display devices last year only had a single DVI connector due to space limitations. As a follow-up to Alen Koebel’s article “HDMI One Year Later” in Issue 84, May 2004, will the manufacturers of 2004 HDTV video displays supply two smaller HDMI connectors?

Contributing Editor Alen Koebel Comments:
Most high-definition displays and HDTVs, except for the very smallest front-screen projectors, could actually accommodate two DVI connectors in their designs. The most likely reason they don’t is cost. That could change with Silicon Image’s new Sil9031 HDMI receiver chip, which supports two separate inputs for about the same cost as their older single-input chips. However, that alone may not be enough. Manufacturers sometimes skimp even now on analog component inputs. If we don’t want them to short-change us on comparable-function digital inputs in the future, we’ll have to let them know.
