In TRON, Flynn (Bridges), a young video game creator who has had his video games stolen by another employee at Encom, is taken from the real world into a digital world by the Master Control, the main computer, AI, who is protecting the man who stole the games. As a "user," he has to fight his way out of this new world of gladiator games with only the help of a program called TRON. (Gary Reber)

The five-disc, two-movie Blu-ray™ Combo Pack includes the Blu-ray 3-D and the Blu-ray 2-D versions plus the DVD and digital copy of the TRON: Legacy, and additionally the Blu-ray of TRON: The Original Classic Special Edition. New special features include "The TRON phenomenon" and the Photo Tronology. Also included are the original DVD features and audio commentaries with Steven Lisberger, Donald Kushner, Harrison Ellenshaw and Richard Taylor.

As this film was previously reviewed on DVD in Issue 58 at 2.20:1, the 2.35:1 1080p AVC Blu-ray Disc picture, which was completely remastered and restored, exhibits high-tech, breathtaking imagery. With previous restorations having very unsaturated color, uneven shadows, and lighting, this restoration has corrected all of those issues and more. Color is so bright and vibrant, it's like it was made with today's technologies—a testament to the effort put in all those years ago. With wonderfully inky black levels in the night scenes, and colored lighting accents, an image is created that is so stylistically different from other motion pictures that it really stands out. Film grain is only apparent in the faces and "human" portions of the digital sequences, along with occasional film artifacts, because of the way the effects were done, similar to hand-animation artifacts. With all the effects in this film, it is amazing how good this Blu-ray looks now compared to even when the film was released. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is the same mix as the DVD, only now it is lossless. It is aggressively holosonic®, making constant use of the surround channels for atmospheric noise and ambience. Sound effects are aggressively engaged in the surrounds, sometimes with pinpoint directionality, and at times sonically blended together with the music. Bass is solid without being overwhelming, with the throbbing tank scenes giving just the right push. The soundtrack, done by Wendy Carlos, is especially clear and present and is extremely clean, with good center-based dialogue, which at times shows wear from the dated recording. (Gary Reber)
