WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
This off-beat drama is set in a New Jersey beach community which is the site of a rash of killings. The real story is about relationships and fears and the unknown. Max Fish (Jeff Goldblum) is a famous movie director who chooses to give up his career to concentrate on his teenage son he now must raise on his own after his wife death. He is torn over his inability to communicate with his son Eddie (Rory Cochrane) a rebel without a cause, who hangs out with the town drug dealer and his crowd. Meanwhile, The Shore Killer targets Eddie as his next victim unbeknown to father and son. A cryptic warning provided by a boardwalk fortune teller (Rosanna Arquette) could save Eddie’s life.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted aspect ratio is 1.83:1. The transfer is generally good although flesh tones are on the reddish side for an unnatural look. The picture is soft and colors are a bit subdued. An occasional print artifact can be seen in an otherwise clear image.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has but a subtle surround presence and then only with music in the track. Otherwise dialogue and effects are monoish.
