WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Lion In Winter is the celebrated classic based on the play by James Goldman. It’s an enchanted literary tale about King Henry II of England (Peter O’toole) who plays a rift of challenge with his wife Queen Eleanor (Katharine Hepburn) over his successor to the British throne. Queen Eleanor favors her eldest son (Anthony Hopkins), but she lacks the position of power needed to succeed the political clout of her fierce-tempered husband. Yet, for Henry to underestimate the resources of his regal bride, the competition could prove fatal.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been recomposed at 2.25:1. Images are sharp and the color is vividly saturated, although fleshtones are inconsistent. The transfer has no artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The mono soundtrack is severely faulted in that the dialogue is not centered, but isolated on the left channel with music on the right. Otherwise the fidelity is passable.
