WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Freshman is a witty and inspired comedy that stars Marlon Brando in the role of Carmine Sabatini, a powerful New York importer and con man who employs a young film student, Clark Kellogg (Matthew Broderick), in his business. Clark soon finds himself caught up in an ingenious scam involving an endangered Komodo Dragon on the loose in a New Jersey mall. The outrageous situation piques the interest of the FBI who asks Clark to snitch on the colorful employer he has grown to admire.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. The picture has an overall unnatural appearance. Interior scenes, in particular, have been filtered with an amber tint and appear over saturated and dark, with poor shadow detail. There are few artifacts otherwise.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has an excellent sense of surround envelopment when the music accompanies the scenes. Otherwise it’s basically mono dominant and undistinguished as such.
