WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Blue Thunder is a vivid action thriller surrounding Frank Murphy (Roy Scheider), a veteran officer pilot who is chosen by the military to test the Blue Thunder Special—a hi-tech, high-speed helicopter with extraordinary features including x-ray vision and hyper-sensitive audio ability—a top-secret sinister weapon of the government.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been recomposed at 2.16:1. Originally photographed in Panavision® there were some 70mm blowup release prints distributed. The picture has some noticeable grain but excellent color fidelity, natural fleshtones and a sharp focus.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack suffers from a lack of dynamic impact and bass extension. The sound is harsh and bright. There is virtually no energy below 50 Hz when there should be. Some effects are directional but overall surround envelopment is wanting.
