WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Mad Max is the film which brought stardom to Mel Gibson and established a series of future-wasteland thrillers with incredible action. This is the future, where lawlessness and violence in the form of crazed outlaw bikers are taking over, blazing their way through small towns with reckless abandon and attacking anyone who happens to be in their path. Max (Mel Gibson) leads the mobile police force which attempts to cut them down by using any means necessary. After he sees the brutal killing of a fellow officer he tries to escape this barbaric existence with his wife and son to a remote country haven, not realizing he is a target.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is beautifully framed at the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Colors are vivid, although the color balance varies. Flesh tones are uneven throughout, but otherwise the image is sharp and fans will find the presentation pleasing.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The monaural sound is limited in scope and effect as are other mono mixes. Dynamics are compressed and the fidelity lacks the resolution of better efforts. However, the car sound effects are effectively used.
