WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Mr. Wonderful is a romantic comedy starring Matt Dillon as Gus with Annabella Sciorra and Mary-Louise Parker. Gus’ dream is to own a bowling alley but his ex-wife’s (Sciorra) alimony payments are holding him back. He tries to solve his problem by finding a husband for his ex-wife Lee, a “Mr Wonderful,” who will put an end to his financial obligations to her. He sends Lee on a series of disastrous blind dates, when finally she finds a perfect match, Gus changes his mind and wants her back.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted to 1.85:1. The picture quality is first rate with natural flesh tones, vivid colors, great contrast and excellent shadow detail that adds depth to scenes. Outdoor scenes are naturally rendered and there are no glaring artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The stereo soundtrack is rather conventional in that stereo separation is limited to the music score and infrequent sound effects. Otherwise the mono dialogue is always intelligible and natural. But there is no effective use of the surround track to enhance the sense of being in the scenes. You could say the movie lost opportunity.
