WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Runaway Train is a suspense filled action thriller, starring Jon Voight and Eric Roberts, who both earned Oscar®-nominations for their performances as escaped convicts. The two escape from a high security prison where inhumane treatment is administered by Chief Guard Ranken (John Ryan). They make it on foot over the icy Northeast wilderness to find a ride on a freight train which ends up becoming a runaway, hurtling toward certain derailment; its conductor dead of a heart attack.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is framed in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio. Overall, the image quality lacks sharpness and exhibits grain and poor shadow detail. Flesh tones are generally blotched but otherwise the reddish hues suggest the freezing cold setting.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is dynamic with deep bass and a well defined aggressive surround that creates an exceptionally spacious sound.
