WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Thing Called Love is an often moving romantic comedy from director Peter Bogdanovich with stars River Phoenix (his last film) and Samantha Mathis as the film’s main characters. The story takes place in Nashville, with country music song writers chasing a dream and one chance in a million of getting it. Samantha Mathis plays Miranda Presley, a young hopeful from New York determined to succeed as a song writer. Phoenix plays James Wright, a young hotshot from Texas, with a honeyed voice and more talent than he can handle.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. Color balance is good with solid blacks but shadow detail is limited. There is no apparent grain and very little noise to mar this otherwise pristine transfer, although images appear filtered and lack sharpness. Flesh tones are naturally rendered.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is punctuated with numerous country music songs that are well recorded and provide an effective ambiance along with that of other stereo sound effects.
