WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel by Paul Theroux, this psychological drama stars Ford as a brilliant inventor so fed up with the “degeneration” of the United States that he packs up his family and relocates to a remote Central American jungle to create his own utopia and play at being God. At the center of the drama is the man’s wavering relationship with his oldest son (Phoenix).

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. The picture has a very natural look, especially throughout the jungle scenes which are spectacular. A slight grain is apparent, but otherwise there is no noise or artifacts to distract from a visual look that is sure to please.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is overall a disappointment because of its lack of effective surround. The movie’s locations offered so much opportunity for a powerful surround envelopment, but the filmmakers fail to deliver. For the most part the presentation is plain old monaural.
