WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Holy Matrimony is a comedy built around a Marilyn look-alike, streetwise thief, played by Patricia Arquette, who with her boyfriend escapes to the religious colony where his family lives, hoping to buy time for the robbery they have committed. However obeying the colony’s very strict rules are something that our heroine refuses to do, and has big plans to recover the loot hidden by her husband who dies in a car accident. Following the bible to the letter, his 12-year-old kid brother is forced to propose to this wilful widow by the elders in what is the only way to rid the colony of her. When she says “I do,” he must find his own way of controlling her.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture exhibits good detail with vivid color, deep blacks, and ex-cellent shadow detail. But fleshtones are inconsistent, even reddish in appearance, and there are some artifacts and slight grain.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby Surround® soundtrack is well recorded but conventional by movie standards and falls short of the potential.
