WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
In the stylish comedy invention, The Hudsucker Proxy, Tim Robbins is Norville Barnes, a young college graduate who arrives in New York with big dreams and little prospects. He is hired as a mail boy by Hudsucker Industries with its heartless system of rules and regulations but finds himself appointed president in a take-over scheme to drive down the company stock after the majority shareholder and company chief commits suicide. Fast-talking reporter Jennifer Jason Leigh threatens to expose the scam, that is, until Norville comes up with an “it’s for kids” idea that just might take the world by storm.

LaserDisc Picture:
The deep blacks and colors are vividly rendered and picture sharpness, detail and contrast are exemplary making this an exceptionally beautiful visual experience. Fleshtones are always natural. The matted 1.83:1 transfer has no apparent grain or marring artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is wonderfully enveloping with a great music score and excellent directionalized sound effects.
