WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Writer/director James Brooks’ I’ll Do Anything was originally planned as a musical, but was redirected as a dramatic comedy after the start of production. It stars Nick Nolte as Matt Hobbs, an out of work actor, and witty Albert Brooks as movie producer Burke Adler. Matt is called upon to take care of his six-year-old daughter Jeannie when his ex-wife is imprisoned, and he hasn’t a clue how to handle this demanding and manipulative child, played very confidently and charmingly by Whittni Wright. Desperate to find a job, failing auditions for a movie in Burke Adler’s production company, he ends up working as Adler’s part-time chauffeur. Meanwhile his very cute and talented daughter lands a key role in a TV sit-comedy and their life takes another turn.
