WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Omega Man is based upon the novel, “I Am Legend,” by Richard Matheson about a plague-ridden future in which biological warfare has decimated life on Earth. A survivor named Robert Neville (Charlton Heston) forages by day in the windswept and burned-out ghost town remnants of Los An-geles, but gets undercover before sundown, when other “survivors” emerge. “The Family,” white-haired mutant ghouls spawned by the plague, are out to get him. While fending off attacks he finds that he is not the only un-infected survivor when he meets Lisa (Rosalind Cash) and some healthy children who he becomes protector to.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is presented in its Panavision® aspect ratio at 2.35:1. While a little dark overall, blacks are deep but the grain is annoyingly noticeable in the dark scenes as well as noise and artifacts. Fleshtones appear naturally rendered throughout and the picture has good color fidelity and detail.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished, but well recorded monaural.
