WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Real Genius is a comedy about whiz-kids in a college science class who discover their laser project is being used as an ad-vanced weapon by the military, a prospect that leads them to pranks in their plan for re-venge. Val Kilmer stars as the genius, Chris Knight, a brain who doesn’t take himself too seriously. After a series of ingenious esca-pades with his class mates he is put to a test and develops a laser weapon, the “Hathaway death beam.” Upon finding the project has been sold by his unscrupulous professor and is being used by the military, he and his pals decide to get even.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is presented in its Panavision® aspect ratio at 2.35:1. The disc is marred by various disc pressing artifacts and grain in the dark scenes. Otherwise it has good color fidelity and contrast, natural fleshtones, and overall good image and shadow detail.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby Surround® soundtrack is essentially a monaural presentation with an overall annoyingly harsh character. Music is sporadic but well recorded.
