WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Hard Boiled is action director John Woo’s last picture made in Hong Kong before his emigration to the U.S. in 1992. The film tells the story of jaded detective inspector “Tequila” Yuen (Chow Yun-Fat) in this tense and dizzying odyssey through the world of Hong Kong Triads spiked with undercover agents, frenzied police raids and thrilling stunt sequences. This classic illustration of violence as poetry is startling with its originality and dark humor. (Chinese)

LaserDisc Picture:
Matted at 1.85:1 the overall look is a bit washed-out and over-bright with inconsistent fleshtones and artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is undistinguished mono.
