WSR Narrative Review |

Story Synopsis:
Rapa-Nui, from the ancient Polynesian name, is the story of the people of Easter Island and the secret behind the stone heads found by Dutch explorers in the 18th century. To the extent of starvation the natives are forced to use all their energy and re-sources in building these statues, for the whim of their superstitious old chief and his manipulator, the evil high priest. A love triangle turns boyhood pals into fierce rivals as they compete for the island leadership in a grueling tribal contest, a sort of primitive triathlon to capture and return with the egg of a rare nesting bird. The bitterness of the competition turns into a savage civil war and their destiny hangs in the balance.
LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is presented in the 2.35:1 scope aspect ratio. The picture’s overall look is natural but filtered and tinted. Fleshtones are natural, however images lack sharpness and fine definition. There is apparent grain and noise in the dark scenes and poor shadow detail, but otherwise there are no artifacts.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is very well recorded with a continuous orchestral score that provides envelopment, great dynamics, and deep bass extension. Good ambient surround
