WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
White is the second in director Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Three Colors filmmatic works (the first, Blue, was reviewed in Issue 10, while Red is yet to be released on laserdisc). The story is about Karol (Zbigniew Zamachowski) a successful Polish hairdresser who fell in love, married and moved to Paris with his wife Dominique (Julie Delpy). Within a few months finding himself divorced, broke and desperate, he meets a fellow countryman who helps to smuggle him back to Poland. Once there he begins anew, rebuilding his life by becoming a wealthy entre-preneur, but he is intent on bittersweet re-venge and plans a dangerous scheme of vengeance to get back at his wife.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. Images are undefined for a soft overall look, but colors are fully saturated with natural fleshtones and good contrast. Noise and grain is prevalent throughout, although there are no distracting artifacts.
