WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Widows’ Peak, is a sly lighthearted Irish comedy featuring Mia Farrow in her first screen appearance since Woody Allen’s Husbands And Wives. Set in Ireland in the 1920’s, the film engages on a small hillside community of widows. Farrow plays the town’s sweetheart with a dark secret in her past. When a pretty American war-widow (Natasha Richardson) arrives in town, Farrow takes an immediate disliking to her. While the newcomer turns the town upside down with deception, scandal and seduction, a vicious rivalry breaks out between the two women that threatens the fabric of the community and leads to a terrific surprise ending. A charming movie.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture is quite natural in appearance with scenes of overcast Irish countryside. Fleshtones are accurate and images are softly rendered. Excellent shadow detail and deep solid are evident with a trace of grain and noise, but few artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has a great orchestral score, with touches of the Irish style, that envelops and directional effects that punctuate the countryside setting.
