WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
In The Army Now is a off-beat comedy with Pauly Shore starring as a recruit in the Army Reserves. Fired for incompetency as a sales clerk Bones Conway (Shore) and a buddy enlist in the Army Reserves taking advantage of the $2,000 the Army pays for training. With his shaggy locks shorn, he attempts to finish basic training along with his neurotic dental student pal (David Alan Grier) and a band of misfits who are being trained as water purifiers, (necessary if called to a desert war). The inevitable happens, they are shipped to the desert to fight and in a series of adventures with their water truck find themselves in a position of importance.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 matted picture is sharply de-fined with solid night scenes and good shadow detail. There is a slight orange cast to fleshtones and color fidelity is inconsistent, but otherwise colors are vivid. The picture is generally noise-free with some slight artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is uneventful with limited dynamics and subtle ambient envelopment provided strickly by the music score and the occasional special effect. Dialogue was recorded within the vacuum of ADR.
