WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Long Riders is a classic western tale directed by Walter Hill about the Jesse James gang. In this film four sets of acting brothers recreate the four most-wanted families of the 1860’s. James Keach and Stacy Keach play Jessy and Frank James. David, Keith, and Robert Carradine play Cole, Jim, and Bob Younger. Dennis and Randy Quaid are Ed and Clell Miller, and Christopher and Nicholas Guest are Charlie and Bob Ford. The action features the usual bank robberies, train robberies, stagecoach robberies, and near escapes from the law. Although typically violent, this episodic picture is sure to please fans of the western genre.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. The look is perfectly natural and is supported with spectacular cinematography. Fleshtones are accurate the images are sharp and detailed. Blacks are deep and solid. There is slight noise and minor artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is dated with poor fidelity, compressed dynamics, and bass impact and extension that is deficient for a mediocre sound presentation.
