WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Carrey is “the nicest guy” Stanley Ipkiss, a mild-mannered bank clerk who discovers a magical mask that turns his innermost desires into a live S-s-s-s-smokin’ toon action in this “wonderfully wacky” assault on the nonsenses. Ipkiss uses his new found eccentricity to capture the heart of the woman of his dreams, the stunning Miss Tina Carlyle (Diaz). The lunacy and visual storytelling is an eye-popping cavalcade of fun!

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture is exemplary THX® Laser Disc quality with a virtually perfect presentation throughout. Color fidelity is outstanding with brilliant colors that are mesmerizing. Fleshtones are accurate and image de-tail and picture sharpness are exceptional, especially on closeups. Contrast is excellent and blacks are deep and solid. There are no artifacts or scenes with distracting noise or grain, just a solid super look.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The DTS surround soundtrack is wonderful with aggressive surrounds and highly energized bass extension. A DTS Coherent Acous-tics™ 5.1 version that I used in a recent A-B listening evaluation (Issue 12) is better still, and hopefully that version will become available in the future as a special edition.
