WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
One Eyed Jacks, based on the novel The Authentic Death Of Hendry Jones, features Marlon Brando as both director and lead actor in this 1960 western revenge drama. Brando plays bank robber Johnny Rio, a man betrayed by his own best friend Dad Longworth (Carl Malden). Rio spends five bitter years in jail vowing revenge against Longworth, who has become a husband, a stepfather and the sheriff of Monterey. When Rio is released from jail he seduces Longworth’s stepdughter, Louisa (Pina Pellicer). A deadly game ensues, and Longworth jails Rio, determined to hang him for murder and bank robbery. With Louisa’s help Rio escapes obsessed with hate to meet Longworth in a showdown at sunset.
