WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Repulsion is Roman Polanski’s 1965 Hitchcock-like thriller that follows a pretty, young manicurist into the depths of psycho-sexual madness. This beautiful schizophrenic is played by Catherine Deneuve in the best role of her career. Polanski creates an unbelievably high level of tension as we watch this woman, tormented by sensuality and driven to murder, mentally disintegrate before our eyes. This film is visually very powerful but definitely not for the sqeemish.

LaserDisc Picture:
The film was transferred from a 35mm fine-grain master print and the original negative and has been matted at 1.72:1. While artifacts are apparent throughout the black and white picture, images are sharp and detailed with good grayscale contrast and shadow detail.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack was mastered from a three-track magnetic mono master.
