WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Witness, the Academy AwardŽ-winning film from 1985 (Best Screenplay, Best Editing), is the story of a young Amish boy who witnesses a murder and the cop who protects him. Detective John Book (Ford) is trying to find the killers of an undercover narcotics agent. One of them is identified by young Samuel (Haas) as another officer (Glover), and the discovery puts he and Book in danger. Book returns the boy and his mother Rachel (McGillis) to their peaceful community and stays with them in hiding. His feelings for Rachel deepen and Witness should also be regarded as a powerful love story with the two facing insurmountable odds. Very engrossing.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. Fleshtones are accurate and overall imagery is detailed and sharp with a natural appearance. Some minor artifacts are apparent as are noise and grain in the darker scenes.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby SurroundŽ soundtrack is wanting in dynamics and surround envelopment. The sound is a bit bright and lacks bass extension. Surround is extremely limited.
