WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The film 1776 is based on the musical play of the same name that opened on Broadway in March 1969. The play won both the Tony Award and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Musical and ran for 1217 performances. The film version features many of the original cast as well as some of the play’s original creative team. The story is about the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, told with music, satire and humor.

LaserDisc Picture:
The scope picture is framed at 2.32:1 from a faded under saturated color print with major artifacts. Generally a mixed bag of sepia-hued scenes, flashes of spot color, inaccurate fleshtones and compressed visual passages making people look deformed, the presentation could hardly be consider a restoration of the original intended 70mm version.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The original intended soundtrack was mag stereo. The stereo sound on this disc has been remixed from masters and is adequate.
