WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Safe Passage, based on a novel by Ellyn Bache, is a stirring drama about the relationships of a family when reunited in the face of tragedy. Mag Singer (Susan Sarandon), the mother of seven sons, is trying to pursue a new way of life, and is estranged from her husband Patrick (Sam Shepherd) when she hears that their son Percival might have been killed in a military barracks in the Sinai Desert. Patrick and the remaining six sons return to the family home to await further news, each reliving his own special memories with the regrets and tensions of an overprotective mother and stern father and the fact that things might never be the same.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture is richly hued with color that is fully saturated with deep solid blacks. Fleshtones are accurate for an overall natural appearance with excellent contrast. The transfer is free of noise, grain and artifacts for a solid visual experience.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
Dialogue on this Dolby Surround® soundtrack is not well integrated and the sound is conventional mono with subtle ambience provided solely by the music score.
