WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Animator Don Bluth production of The Pebble And The Penguin is a delightful song-filled animated adventure that will warm the hearts of every member of the family. It is produced by the creators of Thumbelina and All Dogs Go To Heaven. The story takes place in the majestic landscapes of a frozen land where penguins live. In a penguin tradition, bachelor birds must find and present special stones to their sweethearts at “The Full Moon Mating Ceremony.” Hubie, a shy penguin, loves Marina who is also desired by the evil Drake. When Hubie is cast out to sea, his new friend Rocko helps him prove that love conquers all. Wonderful songs by Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman add to the magic of this family musical treat.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture is solid with eye-popping deep blacks and delightfully vibrant colors. Images are always razor sharp and de-tailed and contrast is excellent. The rich and vivid color scheme is especially catching. And the absence of noise, grain and artifacts is exemplary for picture that is brilliant.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is an excellent blend of dialogue and well recorded music but limited surround envelopment.
