WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Tom & Viv is based on novelist T.S. Eliot’s tempestuous relationship with his first wife, Vivienne, the one woman said to have inspired him towards some of his greatest work. Widely praised by critics and nominated for two Academy Awards®, the story captures Eliot’s struggle for recognition as a writer, and his distress with his troubled wife forces him to choose between standing by her or letting her go. This is a story of love and commitment, and devotion’s ultimate price. Actors William Dafoe and Miranda Richardson deliver exquisite performances in this passionately rendered story.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been recomposed at about 2.10:1 and the source element ap-pears to be from a densely rendered print. Fleshtones are inconsistent and while blacks are deep and solid there is no texture definition. A slight noise permeates the darker scenes.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is subduedly recorded but features a lovely music score. Dialogue is veiled and surround envelopment is limited to the music.
