WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Santa Clause tells the story of a divorced father (Tim Allen) whose relationship with his son Charlie (Eric Lloyd) begins to mend after a twist of fate transforms the man into Santa Claus himself. Charlie’s father gets to be the new Santa when he dons Santa’s magical suit, inheriting Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a gang of elves with attitude. It seems he didn’t read the contract terms on Santa’s card, which clearly states, albeit in fine print: “In putting on this suit and entering the sleigh, the wearer waives any and all rights to previous identity, real or implied. and fully accepts the duties and responsibilities of Santa Claus until such time that wearer becomes unable to do so either by accident or design.”

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture is pristine throughout with exemplary color fidelity.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
While the Dolby AC-3 soundtrack is a bit more open sounding than the matrix one, (both are well recorded) surround presence is subtle on both, with the AC-3 absent its potential.
