WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Wedding Banquet tells the story of a marriage of convenience between a gay man and his female tenant, a down and out artist desperately in need of a green card. Wai Tung, played by Winston Chao, is the young gay Taiwanese who lives with his lover Simon (Mitchell Lichtenstein). Their affair is unbeknown to his Taiwanese parents who persistently pressure and harass him to marry so that they can have a grandson., Simon solves Wai’s problem by suggesting that Wai marry the young girl, played by May Chin. Unexpectedly, Wai’s parents arrive for the wedding and the threesome have a hard time trying to live with this deception.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted to 1.78:1. Image quality is very natural, but color is a bit undersaturated and detail is soft overall. Fleshtones are accurate and shadow detail is good, but there is noise and slight grain apparent in the dark scenes.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is presented in undistinguished monaural. The sound is compressed but dialogue is intelligible.
