WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Speed is the action suspense thriller about a crazed and vindictive extortionist (Dennis Hopper) who has rigged a city bus to blow if the bus slows to below 55 miles per hour. Keanu Reeves plays a fearless SWAT team specialist who, teaming up with a passenger (Sandra Bullock) who takes the wheel, risks all to get aboard the rigged vehicle to prevent a major catastrophe.

LaserDisc Picture:
The scope picture is presented at 2.32:1. The picture is extremely natural with ex-cellent color fidelity, detail and sharpness. Color is fully saturated with deep blacks and excellent contrast. The picture is solid with no apparent grain or distracting noise or artifacts. Fleshtones are not accurate however, a bit oversaturated and unnatural with a slight orange hue. This is a THX® supervised transfer that just misses their acclaimed assurance standard for excellence.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is wonderfully dynamic with bass ex-tension to 25 Hz and in the surrounds too. The opening elevator shaft scene establishes the aggressive surround approach to this mix. How wonderful it would be if other soundtracks were this dynamic and enveloping.
