WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Freeway is a outrageously twisted black comedy loosely based on Little Red Riding Hood. Reese Witherspoon stars as Vanessa, a “white trash” teenager whose mother is in jail for prostitution and step-father for molestation. Eluding foster care and on her way to her grandma’s house, she is picked up by psychologist/freeway killer Bob Wolverton (Keifer Sutherland). Wolverton underestimates the fiery Vanessa and is nearly killed while plotting to kill her—thus setting off an unforgettable chain of events! Added features include the original theatrical trailer and audio commentary by director Matthew Bright.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture exhibits excellent color fidelity with natural fleshtones, vivid colors and deep solid blacks. Images are sharp and detailed with good shadow detail and slight noise and minor artifacts apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has a monaural character though it is produced in stereo. The sound is often muffled and wanting in fidelity, though surround is sometimes aggressive. The filmmakers could have created a better experience.
