WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Horseman On The Roof, based on the novel by Jean Giono is the critically acclaimed passionate adventure about two lovers brought together by circumstance during the 1832 cholera epidemic. International film star and Academy Award®-winner (The English Patient) Juliet Binochet shines as countess Pauline de Theus, searching for her husband, who joins the handsome renegade Angelo (Oliver Martinez) on his way to Italy. Together, they embark on a perilous journey finding that their only chance of survival lies in each other.

LaserDisc Picture:
The framed 2.35:1 picture exhibits good color fidelity with natural fleshtones and deep blacks. Images are sharp and detailed with excellent shadow delineation and contrast. The slightest noise and minor artifacts are apparent. Subtitles can be read, but the second line is slightly cut off.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack, released theatrically in DTS® in France, is nicely presented throughout. Ambient effects provide subtle surround envelopment. The music score is expansive, though slightly bright in fidelity.
