WSR Narrative Review |

Story Synopsis:
In I’m Not Rappaport, 81 year-old Nat Moyer (Walter Matthau), a Jewish radical of the old school, is a compulsive and fanciful talker, a feisty philosopher and a troublemaker given to assuming fictional personalities. His daily companion on a Central Park bench is fellow octogenarian Midge Carter (Ossie Davis), a black, half-blind apartment house superintendent. Midge’s approach to life is realistic and down-to-earth, making him a perfect foil for Nat. These crazy old-timers outrageously take on the world and its multiple threats: including drug dealers, muggers and the spectre of the old folks’ home. Playwright Herb Gardner created the stage version of this charming and warmhearted comedy, after years of observing his fellow New Yorkers in Central Park. During its three year run, I’m Not Rappaport won a Tony Award, the Outer Circle Critics Award and the John Gassner Award.
LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits natural fleshtones, rich and warm colors and deep solid blacks. Shadow detail is excellent and images are sharp and detailed. Slight noise and minor artifacts are apparent.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished mono, mislabeled as Dolby® Stereo Surround.
