WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Lone Star is the gripping murder-mystery that begins when two off-duty sergeants find the skeletal remains and a rusty sheriff’s badge on an abandoned rifle ridge. When the town’s current sheriff, Sam Deeds (Chris Cooper), learns through a multi-layered investigation that the bones belong to a corrupt sheriff run out of town by late legendary lawman—and Sam’s own father—Buddy Deeds (Matthew McConaughey).

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.38:1, exhibits natural color fidelity, accurate fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. Images are sharp and detailed, with good shadow detail and contrast. Slight noise is apparent, but no artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is distinguished by exceptionally produced dialogue which consistently projects a natural spatial presence —something that is often poorly produced on most soundtracks. The overall ambiance, however, is wanting in soundfield dimension and often sounds monaural. The music score is generally well recorded with subtle surround envelopment and limited bass.
