WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Al Pacino assembled an all-star cast to portray the key characters in William Shakespeare’s play Richard III for the documentary drama Looking For Richard. The camera follows the cast and crew throughout rehearsals and meetings, allowing the audience to eavesdrop on the behind-the-scenes process that goes into creating characters and mounting a production. A fascinating and insightful excursion into the seldom-seen backstage world, look for appearances by F. Murray Abraham, Vanessa Redgrave, James Earl Jones and Kenneth Brannaugh.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits inconsistencies as is common with many documentary films. Most scenes are poorly rendered in color fidelity with unnatural fleshtones and undefined blacks. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail and some scenes are marred with excessive grain and artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has documentary quality with frequent sonic inconsistencies. The accompanying music, however, is beautifully recorded with an expansive soundstage character. On-location dialogue is natural sounding.
