WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the film Le Miroir A Deux Faces, The Mirror Has Two Faces is a charismatic romantic comedy about two lonely singles who find each other in an unlikely manner. Greg Larkin (Jeff Bridges), a university professor places an ad for a woman over 35 with a Ph.D.—but physical appearance is not important. Claire (Mimi Rogers) answers the ad for her sister, Rose (Barbra Striesand), who works at the same university. Thus begins a chaotic and unconventional relationship that combines humor and poignancy. The legendary Lauren Bacall stars as Rose’s mother.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85: 1 picture exhibits a soft overall appearance. Color fidelity is good with natural fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. Images are wanting in sharpness, but shadow detail is excellent. Slight noise and artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack features a terrific music score that is beautifully recorded and rich in orchestral character. Dialogue is ADR-produced and rarely sounds natural. Sound effects are produced in stereo with good directionality and both subtle and aggressive surround envelopment.
