WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel by Ken Kesey, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest won all top five Academy Awards® in 1976, including Best Picture. Jack Nicholson gives a powerhouse Academy Award®-winning performance as the institutionalized, but defiantly sane, Randall Patrick McMurphy who revolutionizes Nurse Ratched’s (Louise Fletcher, winner of the Best Actress Oscar®) psychiatric ward. From his first day in the ward, McMurphy’s rebellious charisma and gall encourages his lethargic fellow patients to assert themselves against the system that confines them.

LaserDisc Picture:
The THX® picture transfer, matted at 1.85:1, exhibits generally natural color fidelity with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Images are hazy and wanting in sharpness and detail, but shadow delineation is good. Minor noise and artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is essentially undistinguished monaural in character, except for the occasional music selections and ambiance effects in limited scenes. Dialogue often sounds distorted. Nonetheless, this soundtrack is the best it has ever sounded on LaserDisc.
