WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Pretty Woman is a wonderful comedy and warm-hearted love story that stars Richard Gere as Edward Lewis, a wealthy business executive who gets lost in Hollywood and pays a hooker to take him to his hotel. Vivian’s (Julia Roberts in an Academy Award®-nominated performance) carefree, energetic spirit sparks such an attraction that Edward offers her $3,000 to spend the week with him. While he teaches her about the finer things in life, she teaches him that love could be the best investment he ever made. This exclusive director’s cut contains footage not previously seen in theatres and running commentary by director Garry Marshall.

LaserDisc Picture:
The THX® picture’s color fidelity is excellent with vibrant colors, natural fleshtones and deep, undefined blacks. Images are generally sharp with good shadow detail and contrast. Slight grain and minor artifacts are apparent. The aspect ratio is 1.85:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
This is a very poorly produced “stereo” soundtrack and essentially sounds monaural. Only an occasional scene and the limited music score, whose soundstage presence is not always expansive, offers some surround experience.
