WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Set It Off is a riveting action drama starring Vivica A. Fox as Frankie, a bank teller who finds herself jobless after an armed robbery leaves police and bystanders dead. Her longtime friends Cleo (Queen Latifah), Stony (Jada Pinkett), Tisean (Kimberly Elise), convince each other that there is a better way to make cash—rob the city’s biggest banks and get back at the system that abuses them.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.35:1, is exemplary in all aspects with virtually no noise or artifacts apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
Both the matrix PCM and Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtracks deliver deep bass in the .1 LFE channel. The music score is spread wider with improved distinction between instruments in the discrete version, although the matrix is nicely enveloping. The dialogue is exceptional on both versions, sounding absolutely natural and nicely integrated into each scene. Sound effects are directionalized and bass, while centering around 40Hz, extends to below 25Hz and is powerful.
