WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
She is based on the novel by H. Rider Haggard and stars Ursula Andress as the beautiful and immortal, but cold-blooded Empress Ayesha, also known as She Who Waits. The love-starved Ayesha sets her royal sights on Leo Vincey (John Richardson), whom she believes to be the reincarnated lover she slew 2,000 years earlier in a fit of jealousy. Giving him a ancient map and ring, she sends him on a perilous expedition, with two other soldiers of fortune, to find the lost city of Kuma where, upon his arrival, he will be offered eternal life—filled with riches and power—as her lover. Should he choose to accept her proposal, will he live happily forever at her side...or will he fall as another victim of her deadly rage?

LaserDisc Picture:
The HammerScope® picture, framed at 2.32:1, exhibits a soft character throughout (expecially on close-ups of Ursula Andress and Rosenda Monteros). Color fidelity is rendered in brown hues and weak blacks. Shadow detail and contrast is good. Major artifacts are apparent, but with only the slightest noise. Overall, quality seems dated and plugged up.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is dated mono that is undistinguished and compressed.
