WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on Charles Gaines’ novel, Stay Hungry tells the story of Craig Blake (Jeff Bridges), heir to an Alabama steel fortune, who feels like an outsider in his own life. With the free-spirited Mary Tate Farnsworth (Sally Field) at his side, Craig is drawn into investing his money at the small Olympic Spa gym in Alabama—forgetting his obligations to some low-life commercial real estate developers. Arnold Schwarzenegger is featured in his film debut as Joe Santo, a philosophical, fiddle-playing Mr. Universe hopeful. The original theatrical trailer is included with the feature.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.88:1, looks dated in color fidelity and fleshtones. Blacks are deep and undefined. Shadow detail is extremely poor and overall sharpness and detail is wanting, as is contrast. Noise and artifacts are apparent throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is poduced in undistinguished monaural
