WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Stephen King’s Thinner is a delightfully twisted horror starring Robert John Burke as Billy Halleck, an attorney whose battle is controlling his weight. When he accidentally kills an old gypsy woman, his weight inspires a horrible curse. At first, he considers his punishment of weight loss a welcome solution, but as he continues to drop the weight uncontrollably, he becomes concerned that there is something deadly in store for him. “The Magic Of Special Effects Make-Up,” a 20 minute featurette is included with the presentation, as well as audio commentary by the director/actor Joe Mantegna.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.80:1, exhibits inconsistent color fidelity, often unnatural fleshtones and deep blacks. Interior scenes seem a bit plugged up and dark. The slightest noise is apparent with minor artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is conventional stereo with occasional ambiant effects and inconsistent dialogue. The music score is well recorded, but slightly pulled toward the center. Surround envelopment is generally subtle, with a mixture of aggressive presence and bass.
